You can get used to it after some time, but it it a bit clumsy, so I recommend controller if you own it. Otherwise highly reccomended game from me.. This should be an easy recommendation, but it's not because the interface is TERRIBLE. It is just crazy to design a point and click -- POINT and CLICK -- adventure game that is such a hastle to use with mouse and keyboard in order to try to optimize it for controller. Who is playing a P&C game with a controller, and how do we convince them to go away? Pendulo also just refuses to give up on pixel hunting. Runaway, their first big hit game, is notorious as one of the worst pixel hunting advenure games ever, and they just can't let it go. This game (like the original Yesterday) does have a hotspot highlighter, but it's designed seemingly to make it deliberately obscure. The hotspots blink momentarily for a second in random order around the screen. The result was that I got stuck a couple times because I didn't realize I could click on something and started just scanning every screen to find areas that highlighted, classic old-school bad pixel hunting behavior. Those negatives being said, the story in this game is terrific, the production values aside from the interface (voice acting, graphics, music) are top notch, and the puzzles are mostly quite good. So I recommend this, but it's too bad what should have been a 10/10 game ends up being a mixed recommendation because of the stupid interface.. Great voices and dialog, very great bd style graphics, good music, good story, i love it. a must for point and click adventure player. as an alchemy researcher myself, i liked the alchemy subject and can tell that the dev made a good research on the subject.it's interesting, intelligent and well made, i gave it 9.6/10near perfection, best game from pendulos (i got them all) !play well !. Five Word Review: A marked improved over predecessor.Favorite Thing: They took inspiration from the Sherlock Holmes games in their investigations, sizing up people and stringing together clues and items.Least Favorite Thing: Pauline's voice acting. Even beyond that, the quality of her audio sounds, at times, remarkably lower than Johns.Playtime: ~ 8hEnjoyment: 7/10Recommendation: Yes. Make sure to play the first one. The 'Origins' in the title is a bit misleading, this is both a prequel and sequel.. Fun game - graphics and voice acting were solid with an interesting story that kept my attention. Sadly though, the controls weren't great (especially the mouse.. yikes) and the interfaces were a bit quirky. It was too easy to get stuck on a solution because you didn't face an object at a particular angle to get an interaction icon. I also missed some puzzles that required combining two items where I tried the combining the correct items but eventually realized that it must be done in a particular order for no apparent reason. There are a few more similarly annoying scenarios, but the gist is that there were enough quirks that it took away a lot of the enjoyment from the puzzles.Even with those issues, I still enjoyed playing through despite having to cheat a few times. But I'd give it some serious thought before purchasing since these kinds of issues will drive some people nuts.. TL;DR: A must play for every fan of adventure games, especially if you like Broken Sword or Grim Fandango.I think this is the closest to Broken Sword series we are gonna get in the coming years. Definitely an improvement over the original Yesterday (and 2-3 times longer too!) and one of the best adventure games I ever played. It has it all: cool stylized visuals with great camera work, a good story with a few twists, memorable characters, cleverly written and not overly long dialogues with amazing voice overs, logical puzzles (although some took me awhile, I didn't look for a solution once), and, of course, no pixel hunting, because the game is best played with a gamepad and all active spots are highlighted. Some might argue that adventures should be point and click, but that's a just an opinion (also, remember Grim Fandango!). I personally enjoyed playing it with a gamepad. It adds another layer of interacting with the world as a character but doesn't turn the game into a walking simulator: controls aside, Yesterday Origins is a classic point and click adventure wtih inventory, combining items and some very cleverly designed puzzles.Although all previous adventures by Pendulo were good, every one of them always had a few irritating things (like pixel hunting in Runaway or obnoxious characters in The Next Big Thing). But Yesterday Origins is pretty much perfect. Go play it already!P.S. In case you missed original Yesterday, better play it first. Even though Yesterday Origins tells a standalone story, it will spoil Yesterday's plot if you ever decide to play it after Origins.. A much better experience than the first. It's around double the play time--the puzzles are moderate like the first but the story is better and fleshes out John's loooong history. The ending is something Tarantino would be proud of.. A traditional adventure game that has nothing special in termes of story or acting. Too much reading makes it rather boring for action oriented players.. If you like logic puzzles that forgo all logic than this is the game for you.
